Aol was originally the largest Internet service provider in the United States during its heyday in the early 2000s, acquired by media conglomerate Time Warner. In the future, the company lost its previous position, which affected its cost and forced to mass layoffs. By the end of 2015, the cost of AOL was 15 times lower than that of Time Warner.

On may 12, 2015, Verizon Communications announced plans to purchase AOL for $ 4.4 billion (or $ 50 per share). The deal was completed on 23 June.
